Charles Bohl has just produced a beautiful new book, "PlaceMaking: Developing Town Centers, Main Streets, and Urban Villages" published by the Urban Land Institute. It's a logical compliment to his work as director of the Knight Program in Community Building at the University of Miami's School of Architecture. Before joining the University of Miami, Chuck taught in the fields of planning and architecture at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University's School of Design. He was also a Senior Research Associate at UNC's Center for Urban and Regional Studies where he established an interdisciplinary research program on Smart Growth and the New Economy.
Arnold Spokane is a professor of education and psychology at Lehigh University. As a licensed psychologist, Arnie has an unusual perspective on placemaking. He is just completing a year-long Knight Fellowship at the University of Miami where his work has focused on the effect the physical environment has on people, particularly the elderly.
