About the Show

Jacqueline Novogratz is founder and CEO of the Acumen Fund. Before developing the fund, she served as Manager of Special Projects at the Rockefeller Foundation. There she created and directed Next Generation Leadership, a program focused on building a corps of 21st century leaders with a sense of common purpose and the capabilities required to build a society committed to democratic principles.

She has also worked at the Joyce Mertz-Gilmore Foundation and was a Warren Weaver Fellow at The Rockefeller Foundation. Prior to her career in philanthropy, she founded and helped manage a micro-enterprise organization in Rwanda that continues to serve women on a national level. She has worked as a consultant to UNICEF and the World Bank in various African countries.

Neal Payton is a Principal at Torti Gallas and Partners of Silver Spring, MD, where he is the Director of Urban Design and Town Planning. His urban design work involves a variety of scales including urban revitalization funded under the Hope VI program, inner suburban infill and refill, transit oriented development in emerging development areas as well as regional plans for counties and metropolitan areas. Neal Paytons urban design efforts have been honored nationally with AIA Honor Awards for Regional and Urban Design in 2002 and 2003. Included in these efforts is the development of an urban design primer for builders and civic groups as well as a commercial revitalization study for the City of Charlottesville, VA.

Currently Neal is directing the planning efforts for Hope VI revitalization efforts in Tampa and Lakeland, Florida as well as a new high density Transit Oriented Development in the Washington, DC suburb of Rockville. He has served as a professor of architecture and urban design at a number of universities including The University of Virginia, Washington University in St. Louis, Rice University and The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.
