Ben Starrett is a man of many interests.Ê He is managing director of Florida's Collins Center for Public Policy, executive director of the Funders' Network for Smart Growth and Livable Communities, public policy director for The Growth Partnership and a newly-named Knight Fellow in Community Building at the University of Miami.Ê As if that's not enough, Ben is also trying to establish an Urban Design Center for South Florida.
The Collins Center, in conjunction with the Global Business Network, has just completed a scenarios planning exerciseÊthat looked at South Florida's options for theÊfuture in 2010.Ê TheÊcomplete report can be found at the Collins Center Web site.Ê Read it, and you will much that provokes and applies to the future of Memphis and the Mid-South.
We'll talk to Ben about "South Florida 2010" and other initiatives underway to address the problems that threaten South Florida's lifestyle.Ê And we'll find out how the lessons being learned in South Florida can be applied to problems here in our own region.
