Judy Wicks is president and founder of White Dog Caf?.Ê The White Dog is housed in three adjacent Victorian brownstones in the University City section of Philadelphia.Ê Known for its unusual blend of award-winning cuisine and social activism.Ê ÒTable TalksÓ open to all patrons on issues like economic globalization and ÒFast Food Nation, storytelling about change, breakfast to discuss the AIDS epidemic in Africa, and a mural bike tour are just a few of the events planned at the White Dog this month.
Judy is best known for blending food, fun and social activism.Ê She has won numerous awards, including the prestigious Business Enterprise Trust Award, and she chairs the Social Venture Network.Ê Last month she was a keynote speaker at SeattleÕs Local Living Economies conference.
Judy Nicastro is serving her first four-year term on the Seattle City Council and was sworn into office in January, 2000.Ê Judy ran for an open seat on the Seattle City Council as a strong renters' rights and affordable housing advocate after founding the grassroots organization, Local Housing Needs Local Laws, a year earlier.
On the Council, Judy chairs the City Council's Land Use Committee, is Vice-Chair of the Housing, Human Services and Community Development Committee, and is a member of the Neighborhoods, Arts and Civil Rights Committee. She plans an always-on connection to her workday life as a City Councilwoman, with cameras following her throughout the day.
